About Dr Bim

A business academic who works in the real world

I am Dr Abimbola Adegbuyi, a UK-based Business Lecturer, researcher, mentor and consultant. I help professionals and small business owners clarify their value, position it strategically, increase their visibility and become ready for bigger global opportunities.

My philosophy

The missing link is rarely value

“You are not always short of value. Sometimes, the missing link is clarity, positioning and visibility.”

My work sits at the intersection of academic research and real-world practice, combining evidence-based thinking with practical strategies people can apply to their careers and businesses.

I hold a PhD in Business Administration specialising in Strategic Orientation and SMEs Performance, I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and I have published more than 25 academic works on entrepreneurship, SMEs and business strategy. Alongside teaching and supervising postgraduate and doctoral research, I mentor small business owners on the UK Government Help to Grow: Management Programme.

In my teaching, research and mentoring I meet the same pattern again and again: highly capable professionals and genuinely good small businesses who are being overlooked — not because they lack skill, effort or credentials, but because the value they carry has never been made clear, positioned deliberately, or made visible in the right places.

My story

From Nigeria to the UK — and the lesson that shaped this work

I began my career in Nigeria and was later employed directly from Nigeria into a role in the UK. During the interview, one of the panel members said something I have never forgotten:

“We Googled your name and found your value.”

That statement stayed with me because it captured something important: qualifications and experience matter, but they are not always enough on their own. Your value must also be clear, strategically positioned and visible to the people making decisions.

I had built years of experience, academic work, leadership and professional credibility in Nigeria. But what helped open that international door was that my value could be found, understood and connected to the opportunity.

That is the lesson I now teach, because it is transferable.

It is not simply about where you are from or where you are currently located. The bigger question is: when the right people search for someone with your expertise, experience or solution, can they find you, understand your value and see why you are relevant?

The lesson

“Your qualifications may get you into the conversation, but clarity, positioning and visibility influence the opportunities that find you.”

Everything I offer — coaching, mentoring, training and consultancy — is designed to help you act on that insight: clarify your value, position it strategically, increase your visibility and access the right opportunities.

How I work

One framework, applied to your situation

Whether you are a professional or a business owner, we move through the same four stages at the pace your situation needs.

01

Clarify Your Value

Know what you bring to the table and the problems you are equipped to solve.

02

Position Your Value

Communicate your experience and expertise in a way that makes your relevance clear.

03

Increase Your Visibility

Be present in the professional spaces where the right people can discover your work and understand your contribution.

04

Access Global Opportunities

When your value is clear, well positioned and visible, you increase the likelihood of being considered for opportunities beyond your immediate environment.
